What Modern Brides Expect From Their Wedding Photographer
Live in the moment! We asked professional photographer, Kat Willemse from Vizion Photography and Films, what modern brides expect from their wedding photographer these days…
We have noticed a significant shift in the way brides view wedding photography. In the past, wedding photographers paid a lot of attention to getting that perfect shot, where the couple is perfectly positioned in the most spectacular spot, where the dress can be seen from every angle. But these days’ couples are looking for something different…
Today the photography industry is influenced by digital technology and the incredible ability to share images instantly. With that has come the urge to capture each “moment” and the emotion felt at the time. Most clients we see these days are looking to savour that specific memory! Looking perfect is not the priority anymore. Brides don’t mind being photographed in a casual situation where they interact with their friends and simply have a good time. The dress, the décor and all other elements on the wedding day become a background, a backdrop to the best day of their lives!
We absolutely love this approach. The images we capture these days have so much more emotional charge! With that being said, the clients still expect the wedding photographer to give direction. We still suggest locations and angles, but we rather encourage situations which enable the couple and the bridal party to interact with each other. Once you put a group of good friends together, the laughs and giggles come naturally! The same goes for the newlyweds – leave them be and that incredible connection will shine through.
We are very excited about the direction the wedding photography has embraced. We have taken a complete turn from “look at my Vera Wang dress” to “look how much fun I’m having in my Vera Wang dress”! And if the images we capture these days look almost like Instagram feed, it doesn’t bother us at all. At least we are capturing real emotions and real life!
